First, we need to figure out if the power outage is happening all over the building, or just in your area. Call Security and they will go investigate.
If is day time and the building is not too dark, we will stay open. However, Security will evacuate the areas with no light. Stacks and Moffitt get very dark without lights, and whether or not Doe closes will depend on how much light there is at the moment. Notify Security, Facilities, and the Info Desk Supe. Standby for instructions and do not leave your post unless you are instructed to do so.
The red phone in the Doe South desk is the landline/emergency phone for the building. If you don't see it in the drawer, pull the drawer all the way out!
We discovered during the last power outage that the digital phone system that powers all the phones in this building has only about a 2 hour window of power before the phones are dead. So basically, if we do have a power outage that lasts longer than 2 hours, we will need to use the red phone to communicate with people. If Zsuzsu Listro is in the building, she will run down to the Doe South desk and man the red phone when the main phones go out. If it's a night or weekend, you will need to pick up that phone when it rings, and use it to make calls if the other phone is dead.
