More on MOFFITT 145 - Best practices

This post is to address best practices for helping people be successful in getting to class.  Ultimately, we are balancing two objectives: 1) Ensuring all entrants have proper identification to enter, and 2) Campus requirements regarding access to education (even if that is in a card-restricted building); so the follow is the roadmap to effective navigate these sometime dueling concerns.

Best case scenario:
They have their Cal 1 Card.
"Welcome to Moffitt"

Next Best:
NO Cal 1 Card, but they have another photo ID card (e.g. driver's license passport, etc.)
"If you have another form of government-issued photo ID, you can visit the Privileges Desk in Doe Library for entry via the Doe portal."

If they are "late to class," this is not our problem, if they stand and argue with you, remind them they are just going to be later for their class (as politely as possible without interrupting them...) and that a day pass is still an available option.

Not so good, but we have to work with it:
NO Cal 1 Card, No other photo identification, really no good sense in coming to the library.
"Let me check with the online class schedule...what class are you in?"

Check whether this class if plausible on the class schedule at right.  If so, proceed to call your supervisor, or Doe South (workleader) and "ask" if you can "sign someone into Moffitt via the "Online Visitor's List"  [ONLY at the 3rd Floor Moffitt Info] Desk as an exception so you can help them out.."  This action will make you their advocate, consequently, they will not make you suffer for their forgetfulness; and it will allow us to log their entry and track anyone trying to abuse the process. Then, allow them entrance to their class.

Ultimately, we want to make sure they know this is super-exceptional, and not to be repeated, by you calling and "asking" if you can make this exception they understand you have gone out of your way to be an advocate, and will hopefully learn to comply in future interactions.  Also, you will advise the patron this is "super-exceptional".

If you get the sense anyone is abusing this back-door, advise the Info Desk Supervisor for censure of future access writ large.  The goal is to keep you all from getting unduly harassed and still maintaining the integrity of the access policy.
