Since the start of this semester, I've noted an increase in day-of call outs, often for reasons unrelated to illness/emergency.
Per our Attendance Policy, you are not automatically excused from your shift after posting to the Listserv. Rather, you are only excused from a shift if someone volunteers to cover for you. Otherwise, you are still on the hook for that shift and will be expected to come in (unless you are sick or there has been an emergency).
If no one offers to cover your shift, you can reach out to me and I may choose to approve of your absence, depending on departmental need. Do not reach out 5-10 minutes before your shift expecting to be approved off.
If nobody offers to cover your shift and you neglect to reach out to me for approval, your absence will count as an unexcused absence, which is grounds for dismissal.
My hope is that adhering to these rules will ensure fewer interruptions to library operations and reduce the burden placed upon whomever happens to be on-the-clock when the Info Desks are short staffed!
