Some of you may remember from initial tours/training the phrase "redundant workflows" coming up periodically, this basically describes the ways in which the Library as an organization looks after itself, by building in intermittent workflow reviews by different departments of other department's work. This allows a highly detail-oriented environment like the Library to remain successful at high volumes of transactions with even greater numbers of resources.
Apropos of this, it is worth mentioning that everything we do at the infodesks (occupying a public space, in clear view of other Library workers as well as the public) is being watched, if not by me directly by others with an investment and some understanding of the goals of our department. Which means by extension, it is critical, absolutely critical, you not get complacent or lazy in doing the work that is your mandate; it will be conspicuous.
The film Casino does a fine job of describing another organization with a likewise, high expectation of detail and volume of transactions, gaming:

It is just as true in the Library as well...
Take away point? There is little that goes on in the Library that is not noticed by someone who knows your supervisor, so please always behave as if your manager is sitting right beside you while you work, because for all intents and purposes he is going to be advised of what is occurring; good, bad or otherwise.
