Sadly, theft, assault and other crimes occur within the Library. While we have in previous posts discussed "when to fill out an incident report" Nome from Security has devised an elegant means by which you may in the heat of the moment, immediately get down pertinent perpetrator details before they escape you or the victim reporting the crime.
In the event someone comes to your infodesk and advises you they have: A) had something stolen, b) been assaulted (physically/verbally), c) seen someone doing something they should not be doing (variable), please offer the below form available at each infodesk for the victim (or yourselves if you are the witness) to fill out while you await the arrival of the Security and/or police you have called to resolve. This form allows an immediate (intuitive) means by which to identify the suspect(s) and provides the victim with something constructive to do whilst they await security/police.
The above screenshot is just a portion of the first of two sides. On the front page, the victim is intended to circle (or write in if absent) attributes that best describe the suspect.
The form should be the first thing you think to do after contacting either security or the police (as warranted), this will allow us to capture as much information up front as possible and will allow security/police to have a template of information to work with when they arrive.
There are copies of these forms at each infodesk inside the Info/Security Binder. Also, if you run out and need to reference one, you may find them in the sidebar (right) "Forms and Documentation" link for immediate gratification. Please also notify the Information Desk Supe so that forms may be restocked.
Please begin using these immediately as warranted by (unfortunate) circumstances such as thefts, assaults, etc.
