Scan & Print!!
You should read through the Library's page on the Scan & Print services so you thoroughly understand how the pricing is different for Cal 1 Card holders vs. Guest Card holders. So you are familiar with where certain services are offered, and how to establish a guest card. Guest cards may be procured at the Privileges Desk or Reference Desk (for referrals in Doe) and in the Copy Center (for Moffitt referrals). Please view this short video (no sound necessary) describing how public patrons can go about adding value to their guest cards.
This is an example of a scan & print station located in Main Circulation's "copy room":
This machine allows a person to both scan images and save them to a flash drive and/or print directly from the scan to a nearby printer. Please view this short video (no sound necessary) describing how to scan and save images to a flash drive.
Also, please view this short video (no sound necessary) describing how to scan and PRINT the scanned image(s).
Scan project/"copying" inquiries can be referred to the Circulation copy room, or the 2nd floor Reference area.
There are also a few copying and printing stations located within the Main Stacks collection on every floor (B-D) for the convenience of those researching internally.
Print Stations!!
There are printing stations in the Circ Copy Room and the 2nd floor Reference Area for Doe. For Moffitt, people can be referred to the 1st floor Drop-In Computer Facility.
So a good follow-up question to "it's not working" might be an inquiry about whether they are students or general public and if they are "bumping" or "swiping" as instructed. Another common hangup for some people is when the computer goes to sleep from non-use. In this circumstance, if the user does not "wake" it up by moving the mouse or touching a key, the 1st swipe/bump can have the same effect, but not recognizing the swipe/bump and leading to assertions of the print station not working...it's working fine, just a bit groggy, have them re-swipe/bump a second time after it comes back to life, it should work fine.
If you still get feedback that it is not working, the user should be referred to Main Circulation for resolution, but do try to help them troubleshoot as much as possible (without leaving your post!) before just punting them to Circulation. Effective referrals have the smallest number of extra redundant steps, this should be our goal in all feedback we give the public.
I know there is a lot of information here, but it is important and likely has already come up at one point or another for all of you, so please periodically come back to this post and review so you can be helpful to the public when inquiries arise. If anything above is unclear or you have questions, please include them in the comments section, so I can clarify and amend the post for future readers.

It is important to note that those using their Cal 1 card ID must have money on their card in order to print.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if Cal 1 Card holders decide to replace their card, their older card doesn't retain a monetary balance. The most recent card has to be tapped for the print job to work.
