What's the policy regarding Cal IDs that are found?

What do we do with Cal IDs found and given to the InfoDesks?

For the purposes of all of the below, please note that I mean ALL forms of Cal 1 Photo ID card, this may include undergraduates, graduates, Faculty ("F"), Postdoc ("P"), Visiting Scholar ("V"), Affiliate ("N"), and Staff ("S") ID cards.

When the Info Desk receives a Cal 1 ID...
  • Log the Cal1 ID in the L&F database.
  • Enter the Cal1 ID in the lost card custody log.
    • Tip: You can find the link to the custody log is listed on the blog homepage under Important Forms & Links.
  • Have the Extra bring the Cal1 ID to the Cal 1 Card Office @ 212 Sproul Hall (open M-F, 9:00 - 4:30).
    • Do this as soon as possible. Be sure to update both the L&F database and the custody log when the card is being delivered!
    • If there is no Extra, you can ask the Info Supervisor to do this!
  • If the card comes to us after Sproul is closed or on the weekend, please log the card and place it in the key drawer. Write a note to the morning workleader to let them know to arrange for its delivery in the morning. Do not place Cal 1 cards in the L&F closet!

All other forms of ID (e.g. Driver's licenses, passports, debit/credit cards, medical insurance cards, etc.) should be entered normally into the Lost and Found database; but CAL ID cards should be routed as soon as possible to the office so the user may get it back if they go to sit for another photo.

  1. Question: If it is a wallet that has a CAL ID inside along with other IDs or credit cards should it be logged in the database and kept in the L&F?

    1. Great follow-up!

NEVER separate items; so if you get a wallet it should go in it's entirety to the Lost&Found database and closet subsequently. Ideally, the workleader in weekday shifts may consider contacting the Privileges Desk for a user lookup to see if a contact number may be available for the workleader to call and advise the wallet was found and to pick up at Doe South Lost&Found.
