Panic Buttons - ONLY IN EMERGENCY, don't cry wolf...

So we have achieved a new record this week, two false alarms stemming from accidental grazing of the Moffitt 3 Panic Button...3rd time can cost us the service, so let's not let that happen.

I have actually moved the location of the panic button at Moffitt 3 to mitigate it happening again over the weekend (more on this later).

But first, let me explain why it's a bad idea.  More than anything it wastes UCPD resources, but also as those who accidentally touched the panic button can describe, UCPD comes in "hot". They expect a crisis when they are sent on a silent-alarm call, because generally these calls are for emergency situations in which someone does not want to conspicuously draw attention to calling the police.  Examples include the very cinematic hostage situations and bank robberies, to the more pedantic, but just as dangerous chemically imbalanced aggressor or clearly impaired medical emergency such as a seizure or heart attack.  In short, this button is for emergencies, and all care should be utilized to avoid accidental use.

We will review the location and means to activate the Doe and Moffitt panic buttons in a post next week, but same logic, only in an emergency, don't cry wolf!
