ID Checking Setup - Doe only, after 7pm

Posting here based on what was sent as an email some time ago:

At 7pm, every night, we start to check all entering patrons for IDs, like what we did at Moffitt. The only IDs allowed in are the Cal1Card, the Orange/Yellow cards, and LBNL badge cards. That's it. New signage will be coming soon, Communications is on it. If someone needs a day pass, radio Circ supervisor (who now has a radio, too)

That's the reason that shifts start getting an extra person, a Doe Extra to help with ID checks. This change also means that we need to do some rearranging of some physical space. We start rearranging things at ~6:30pm and return things to normal when Doe closes. This mostly includes putting up stanchions to make an exit and entrance lane, and locking some of our doors to facilitate this. It may take some getting used to. At Doe North, this also means that we need to move a table and chair to the other side of the hallway, squeaky though it may be, so that we can have 1 person for each lane; one checks IDs, the other deals with book alarms/ALMA. Per Marito:

“The Set-up”:

Doe South: Information Desk staff will lock the 2 sets of doors closest to the restrooms, while the 3rd (ADA) door remains unlocked. The stanchions will be set up in a “Y” formation following the natural division from the middle book gate to create 2 lanes (exit/ entry). Signage will define the exit on the left towards the door closest to the restrooms. The middle doors will be roped off and only made available in case of emergency. Signage posted on the exterior will guide patrons to enter via the ADA door, where Information Desk staff will check for appropriate access cards from the desk. Note: ADA exit remains the ADA door

Doe North: Stanchions will be positioned following the natural division of the middle book gate to define the exit/entry lanes. If looking from outside, the entry lane will be on the right hand side (the only door handle is on the right door). The exit lane will be the left side - this door will be locked to avoid lane jumping. This is the reverse of Doe South. A small table will be located between the marble pillar and book gate where Information Desk staff will check for the proper access cards.

(Liz Note: Patrons exit on the Doe North computer side, enter on the movable desk/Morrison side. On the Morrison/Entry side, we do have an extra chair that can be used, you don't have to stand).

Closing: Information Desk staff at the North entrance will follow existing procedures with the added responsibility of moving the stanchions and the small table back to their space. Information Desk staff at the South entrance will follow similar procedures of returning the stanchions back to their location. All staff will remain until Library Security has completed their walkthrough and communicated the “All Clear” via radio.
