Workleader Clarifications

Howdy, here are some clarifications about workleader duties that have been asked/requested from students:

  • Sometimes people will put up a shift on WTW without much clarity about whether they'll appear (as a reminder, unless it's medical or an emergency, you're expected to attend shifts). This leads to some scenarios where those working back-to-back might have preferred to claim a desk but couldn't because we didn't think someone was showing up, only for that newly arriving person to take that position. I'm of the opinion that if that occurs, we can give the preferred desk that'll now be staffed to the person working back-to-back, rather than the one who delivered ambiguous messaging. A short desks swap may be required.
  • Sometimes when there's ambiguity (shift drop requests should come with a clear reason in the comment box) and it seems like someone should be at a desk by default, we should note if we don't have confirmation that that person is here (a message saying where they are should suffice). That way we can keep an eye on situations that are ambiguous. Again, this shouldn't occur because reasons for drop requests should be clear and specified (even if it's just you talked to me first), but for when we need it let's try to keep this in mind.
  • For those working partials, if they work less than an hour then they get to claim a desk on the chat, but only after those working the full shift or over an hour have had a say on back-to-back claims.
  • Moving forward, I'd like for workleaders to write down when a person is late, and when they arrived. As of right now, a fair number of workleaders already do this, but it makes sense to codify it like what we did with labeling when folks had breaks/lunches next shift, or when writing down when folks were No-Call/No-Shows. This doesn't really apply to people coming from class within reason, of course; that's a consideration we'll continue to keep.
