Reporting suspicious activity

We recently had a patron write to us, concerned that we had allowed someone entry with a large black duffel bag, claiming that they could have been carrying weapons. We let the patron know that we do not have a policy about searching bags upon entry, but it did make me think about addressing suspicious activity with you all. Your judgments about what is suspicious will differ from your coworkers' and that is ok.

If you get an uneasy feeling about a patron or situation, call in security to monitor the situation. This internal red flag might be a large bulky bag, it might be a patron wandering around casing the area, or it might be someone watching you from across the room. Trust your gut. Call security and let them know what is going on.
