Access to Moffitt Library and Gardner (Main) Stacks is limited to people with a UCB ID, current yellow/gold library card, or blue library card (for Moffitt, only those with the VIP sticker). University of California students, staff, and faculties may use their UC ID to enter the Gardner (Main) Stacks as well. Library staff members may provide access for visitors using one of the following procedures.
Tour Guide Badge - Access to all entrances
Visitor’s Online List for Moffitt - Access to all entrances (Exception: Moffitt classroom access only via Moffitt 3rd floor entrance)
Useful for off-campus individuals with meetings/events there as well as special requests to see the space or services for short self-guided tours. Information Desk students will also use this list to record names of those who forgot a Cal1 Card and photo ID, but have class inside Moffitt.
Library staff can email library-visitor@lists.berkeley.edu to request that a visitor be added to the Online Visitor List on Google Drive. At least two days in advance, Library staff should provide the name listed on the visitor’s government issued photo ID and the date of the visit. The sponsoring staff person’s name will be listed too. To enter, visitors will need to let the library staff at the entrance to Moffitt know that they are listed on the online visitor’s list and show their ID for approval.
This visitor’s list will be used to allow guests to the Moffitt spaces who otherwise do not fit other criteria for access (e.g. appointment with library staff in Moffitt, visiting researcher, etc.) All visitors must have a valid government issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID or passport). All visitors must be 18 years of age or older or accompanied by a supervising adult with approved access.
Information Desk student employees will add the names of students who forget both their Cal1 Card and government-issued photo ID (needed for a day pass) but need to enter Moffitt Library to attend class. Before allowing them entry and entering their name on the list, Information Desk students will verify which class the student is attending. Classroom exceptions are only permitted through Moffitt 3rd floor entrance.
Visitor’s Binder for Moffitt - Access via Moffitt 3rd floor entrance
Library staff with offices in Moffitt can sign in visitors in the black Visitor’s Binder at the Moffitt 3rd floor Information Desk. The name entered should match the name listed on the visitor’s government issued photo ID. This is the best option if you don’t have at least two days advance notice.
Visitors do not need to be accompanied and will need to let the student staff at the Moffitt 3rd floor Information Desk know that they are listed in the binder and show a government issued photo ID when entering.
Blue Card VIP Sticker - Access to all entrances
The Library Board and Friends of the Library are issued Blue Cards with a special gold VIP Sticker, that gives them access to all entrances of Moffitt and Gardner (Main Stacks).
Blue Day Pass for Gardner (Main) Stacks - Access via Doe Library/Gardner Portal Level A
Visiting researchers and others coming for more than a short purpose should request a blue day pass at Privileges at the Main Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of Doe Library to access Gardner (Main) Stacks via the Level A portal. (Check Privileges Desk hours) A government issued photo ID is required for identification.
Visitors may apply for a one day Stack Pass online, or request longer term (up to 3 months) access online as well. Permission for Stacks access is not automatic.
Visitors need to confirm their need for materials in MAIN Stacks; these are not for access to study rooms or general touring.
