Community Service Officer (CSO) Program

What is a CSO?

"Our CSO Program is staffed by a cadre of up to 40 part-time student employees. The CSOs provide the BearWALK night safety escort service to students, faculty and staff. In 2015, the CSOs performed 7,473 BearWALK escorts. CSO activities provide a high-profile uniformed presence during the hours of darkness, and positively impact the coordinated safety efforts for the entire campus. The CSOs also provide a contracted presence in residence halls and libraries. Additionally, in cooperation with UC Berkeley Parking & Transportation, the Night Safety and Door to Door Shuttles served over 140,000 passengers." - UCPD website

That's cool. Why are you telling me this?

Moffitt Library will be contracting with the CSOs to provide you with an escort when you are walking home late at night! Beginning November 2nd, the CSOs will be stationed on the 4th floor of Moffitt library from 10pm to 3am, except when they are walking folks home. This service will be available to staff and patrons alike. When they are escorting someone else, you can either wait for them to return or book a BearWALK escort instead. We are encouraging everyone to use this service, or use the buddy system when leaving the library late at night. Safety first!
