So you arrive on shift to open the Library and no one else is present, and the clock is ticking, what's a person to do?
You are working a midday shift, it 15mins after shift starts and 1 or more of your people are missing in action...
Here are some general guidelines:
1) Send a message to the listserve asking for subs immediately
2) Call Info Desk Supe or Access Services Manager (Mark) to advise you have a staffing shortage (see "Missing Workers?" sidebar to determine which number to call).
3) If it is within 5 mins of OPENING the Library, AND you have not been able to reach the Info Desk Supe or Access Services Manager, contact Security via radio to ensure they can assist in opening one of the portals (preferably Doe North).
Best way to avoid all of this, is BE ON TIME, it's such a simple small thing that I expect from every single one of you. Being present is 85% of this job, it is the easiest and most fundamental aspect of your work. Being habitually late to a basic job almost never gets better in more complex professional work, managers do not want to waste their time reminding you, it is implicitly expected to be done right. So for the sake of your coworkers and management, please set you alarms earlier, and be (early or) on time, focused and ready to work.
