UCPD and emergency responders - LET SECURITY KNOW they are on-site...

I have recently been asked by the Head of Security that we radio Security anytime Police or Medics arrive in the building or are en route to an interior location.

As many of you may be aware, there are many times when first responders are called independent of either the Infodesks or Security by interior individuals using the Library.  In these cases especially, for our own internal Library reporting, it is crucial we have eyes on the situation.  Notifying Security of responders' arrival will help manifest this best case documentation.

Likewise, UCPD has a regular program of periodic roving in the various Libraries as a deterrent for theft and miscreant behavior, so their presence in the course of these rounds should still be advised to Security via radio.  Ideally, you will have some words with the responders at the Infodesk on their arrival and may inquire the nature and/or destination of their visit and may pass this down to security via radio.  At the very least advise security responders are in the building via whichever infodesk you are reporting from.

Addendum:  If undercover or plain-clothes police approach your desk and explicitly state they are police, do NOT say this over the radio (for obvious reasons) please simply call the Info Desk Supe and advise of their presence internally (and business, if stated).
