"But I forgot my lock..." - Sorry, no way, bike home and get your lock."This bike is too fancy to lock up..." - Then you shouldn't ride it to campus! Hella bikes get stolen on campus.
"Can I leave it here for a few minutes?" - NO, NO and N-to the-O, this is not a courtesy we can offer. (if they just ditch the bike at your infodesk and walk in anyhow, immediately call a rover to come and claim the bike, but first try to convince the person to take their bike!)
Specifically at:
Moffitt - Bikes should not be allowed to enter the Moffitt Building, including FSM...so as soon as you see them breach the doors, speak up and advise them to take the bike and lock it between Moffitt and Doe.
Doe South - There is a staff bike area (immediately adjacent to the infodesk) where pre-authorized staff with access keys are allowed to leave their bikes. There is no reason they should need to bring their bikes any further into the Library. Everyone else should not get past the alarm gates without questioning their intentions, and then sending them on their way back outside to the bike lock spaces up and left towards the Campanile.
Doe North - You should be stopping bikers at the Harry Potter doors, no exceptions, Staff should be routed to the South entrance, they should NOT be walking it through the Library to the South side.
What else?
Skateboard? Scooter? Hover board?
Patrons can bring these inside, but no riding them in the Library!
Again, please do not hold onto these at the entrance. They can enter with the patron, but they are not secure if left with us because we are busy watching the door and not other people's things. Also, there are real safety issues that raise liability concerns for the library.
Electric Scooters and transport chairs are allowed if medically required. Strollers are also ok!
If patrons protest, show them the Library Code of Conduct.
