Doe and Moffitt: Worst-Case Scenarios

Security, Info, & Circ

If we have 1 or no SLEs, and other departments are low as well, what’s our plan? How do we staff things, what do we prioritize, and what do we tell the people? These are truly "down to the triarii" situations where would have not just leave Main Stacks alone but other desks as well. Normally we ask Circ students for Security students for assistance, but this is for the perfect-storm times where that won't really work.

In all cases,

-Contact the Listserv. If we are down, contact people. Let other departments know.

-Career staff (supervisors) will try to fill in, you can contact them

-We may close a few things. Main Stacks can be left alone at a time like this, but sometimes other desks too, depending on the scenario (see below)

-Keep your supervisor, Security, and Circulation informed of the situation as it develops


In the event of not enough career staff on

Saturdays (Moffitt only)

-Should shut down Moffitt 3 Entrance (contact your supervisor on their cell, they contact Tony on his cell).

-Moffitt will have 1 person from each department: Moffitt 4 would be covered by Circ, Moffitt 3 by Info

-Security can covers breaks in this instance

-Worst case; Marito and Liz can come in Saturdays to close or help if there’s no one.

Weekdays+Sunday (when Doe and Moffitt are low staffed)

-Should shut down Doe North entrance. Update, 1/29/25: We are not allowed to close the Doe North Entrance. PLEASE DO NOT DO SO. Contact on-duty Security, let them about staffing situation, then contact your supervisor (that's me) on their cell.

-Doe South is what we'll focus on. We'll ask Circ to cover Moffitt.

-In addition to sending out the usual email to InfoDeskers on the listserv, if there aren't enough career staff on site, call them and use the phone sheet online to see who's available to call. At this stage your supervisor was likely contacted about Doe North so they'd probably be coming in at that point if possible. Circ supervisors are the next best bet. Updated phone sheets will be printed, but the one online is the most up-to-date.

Sunday Specific (Doe and Moffitt):

-Tom and Luis from Circ can assist closing: from 1pm to Close.

-Career staff from Security are also present on Sundays and can assist.

-If we still don't have enough, call direct supervisor (that's me) for assistance, then Marito, then other Circ supervisors (if not already present)



If any of these scenarios happen, please let your supervisor know.
