This is exactly what it sounds like - they can chat with a librarian in real time about their research needs. There is also an email option if they would rather leave an email message for one of our librarians. They can also use this page to schedule an appointment with a reference librarian.
On the library homepage, just click on "Research Help" under the Help tab.
