Lost and Found - How to keep it neat!

Please note these friendly reminders for some best practices for logging in items in Lost and Found.

Many items were found to be missing in a routine audit, I want to believe this has much more to do with people not properly "claiming" the items they give back to individuals who claim them at Doe South.  Make sure when you connect someone with their stuff, you also mark the item claimed in the database, check their ID, and write their name and how you verified identify in the Claimed By field.

Best Practices:

Empty all liquids/foods in containers as soon as they are relocated to Doe South and the L&F closet. This will prevent the possibility of mold and is generally a good sanitary practice.

DO NOT place undergarments, feminine hygiene products, contraceptives, and other items not likely to be claimed in the Lost and Found.  Use your best judgment when deciding to catalog something for the L&F; if you are not sure, call the InfoDesk Supervisor.

Items should be placed left (oldest) to right (newest) on the specific type of item shelves.  As the I perform routine audits, I will organize and reconcile all database items are physically present; but InfoDesk employees should make a concerted effort to keep that little space tidy and orderly.

Log it!
Claim it!
be thorough...
