People trying to sneak friends into Library - STAY FROSTY PEOPLE!!

As we are nearly approaching 24hr studyhall and Finals, we should discuss more fully a topic of grave concern to the Library, access to the collection with proper identification.  Specifically, ONE CAL ID card for ONE PERSON, namely the person whose picture is on the card!

During this time of year it is not uncommon for people to try to sneak in their friends from other schools, their forgetful friends from this campus, or themselves into the Stacks....In all cases, this is unacceptable, and it is your job to stop it from happening.  The Library (and campus by extension) takes fake ID, false representation and trickery very seriously, and as such, so shall we.

The most common gambit for getting a friend in the Library is Person A entering in the collection, hanging out for a second then walking behind your field of vision to pass their ID Card to Person B over by the security gates or circulation, we'll call this "the handoff".  During the 24hr periods, the Moffitt infodesk will be staffed with two people, so the 2nd person should always be facing the interior watching for this sort of "handoff" buffoonery.  If you see it happening, try to get the ID card, or call security immediately.  I need names, and/or descriptions of the perpetrators!

Even if you missed the actual handoff, I would expect since you are being vigilant and effectively looking at the ID Cards, when Person B enters, you should notice, you JUST saw the same person's face on an ID card very recently.  Don't be shy about asking someone or a group of people to, "please step aside for a second" so you can better investigate their ID cards.  While we do aim to be expeditious, this is not at the expense of being effective in enforcing the access policies.  If they give you static, give them my card to complain.  (But expect that I will be asking you more details about the interaction, so write down relevant aspects and/or send me an email explaining, or even do an incident report!)

I'm a bit concerned about the prevalence with which people are using other's ID cards, if you are seeing it, the card needs to be confiscated from the patron and I need to be advised IMMEDIATELY, we refer these cases to the Office of Student conduct for censure.  ID cards are a must, specifically assigned ID Cards of registered students are a must. No ID no entry no exception.

If entrants are clearly using someone else's ID, ask to see it closer, get your hand on it, and do NOT let go, confiscate it and advise me via incident report (with details!) and phone/email when/what transpired and I will proceed to have them dealt with by the campus...
